Córdoba celebrates its 'Año de Flamenco'
throughout 2006

The program includes several tributes to National Contest prizewinners

Flamenco-world.com, February 2006

Córdoba stakes its claim as a key point on the flamenco map. The city of the world-famous mezquita has declared 2006 its Year of Flamenco, to coincide with the golden anniversary of its contest - the Concurso Nacional de Arte Flamenco. The program for the first six months of the year, including a total of 350 activities, features several gala evenings paying homage to artists who've won the prestigious award. There'll be maestros of cante, baile and guitar such as Fosforito, Lebrijano, Paco Cepero, Merche Esmeralda and Manuela Carrasco, to name just a few. In addition, there are performances scheduled by Arcángel, Sara Baras, Vicente Amigo and José Menese at the Gran Teatro, and abundant recitals at peñas around the province and other smaller venues. As well as live flamenco there are exhibitions, debates and seminars.
