The Córdoba
Guitar Festival goes beyond guitar. And not just in the
show schedule proposed by the city’s stages, but also
in its training section. In the event’s thirtieth
edition, which will take place from July 6th to 25th, 2010,
the now prestigious seminar ‘Naturaleza y forma de
la guitarra flamenca’ directed by Manolo Sanlúcar
will be held once again, as well as the cante course by
Calixto Sánchez. Moreover, the offer of baile courses
is extended this year with a faculty consisting of Matilde
Coral, Javier Latorre, Inmaculada Aguilar and Rocío
Molina. The students are offered extra incentives like scholarships
and tickets for the shows, as well as the option to audit
the courses.

“I’m going to give the people
who study with me all the information I have so that they
thoroughly understand that flamenco is an extraordinarily
scholarly culture”. From that perspective, Manolo
Sanlúcar once again directs the course ‘Naturaleza
y forma de la guitarra flamenca’ (‘Nature and
Form of Flamenco Guitar’), in which this year he teaches
classes together with instructors José Antonio Rodríguez,
Paco Serrano and Manolo Franco. For this course, which can
also be audited, there are eight scholarships offered by
the Agencia Andaluza para el Desarrollo del Flamenco and
by the Cristina Heeren Foundation, in addition to the ones
which Casa Árabe offers to students from Arab countries.

Baile is taught this year from very different
perspectives. Veteran maestra Matilde Coral unravels the
secrets of ‘Triana por tangos’, instructor Inmaculada
Aguilar teaches the course ‘Coreografía de
la caña con bata de cola y mantón’ (‘Choreography
of the Caña with a Bata de Cola and Shawl’),
instructor Javier Latorre focuses on ‘La interpretación
de un personaje en el baile flamenco’ (‘Performance
of a Character in Flamenco Dancing’) and young maestra
Rocío Molina will lecture pupils on the ‘Carácter
e interpretación sobre variaciones de distintos palos
y estructura de coreografía de seguirilla’
(‘Character and Interpretation of Variations of Different
Styles and Structure of Seguirilla Choreography’).
Registration includes a ticket to baile shows at the Gran
Teatro, which are ‘El duende y el reloj’ by
the Javier Latorre Company and ‘Lluvia’ by Eva
Yerbabuena.
2010 Córdoba Guitar Festival appears
as a key date for the international guitar world. Besides
flamenco guitar, which will materialize live with Paco Peña,
Paco de Lucía and José Antonio Rodríguez,
it promotes courses and performances by big international
names in this instrument, among them, Leo Brouwer, Mark
Knopfler and Johnny Winter.
