The teaching program at the Festival de
Jerez goes from strength to strength. The event, held in Jerez between February
27th and March 11th 2003, has already enrolled 340 students from all over the
world on its 26 courses and workshops in flamenco and Spanish dance, filling more
than fifty per cent of the places just in the first month, with seven courses
and one workshop already fully subscribed. No mean feat bearing in mind there
is 37 percent more on offer compared to the previous festival, up from eighteen
courses with a capacity for 450 students in 2002, to twenty-three courses and
three workshops in 2003, taking the total number of places available up to 630.
The call of the Festival de Jerez's
elite band of teachers has been heeded far and wide - in Japan, in Central Europe,
in the Nordic countries, in the Americas, in Taiwan... attracted by prestigious
instructors of the caliber of Matilde Coral, Angelita Gómez, El Güito,
José Granero, Javier Latorre, Manolete, Lola Greco, El Pipa, Manolo Marín,
Inmaculada Aguilar, Isabel Bayón, Merche Esmeralda, María del Mar
Moreno and Rafaela Carrasco. And many have jumped at the opportunity to study
with newcomers such as Ana María Bueno, Mercedes Ruiz, Andrés Peña,
Juan Antonio Tejero and María José Franco.
The new features of the courses on offer
in 2003 include specialist workshops, a wider range of levels of proficiency,
and the need to demonstrate a sufficient level of competence in order to gain
access to professional level and specialist courses.
