Although flamenco comes to her from the cradle, Diana Navarro chose a different road to delve into the music world. But following three hit albums halfway between copla and pop, the singer takes a look at her roots and releases her first cante disc. Simply ‘Flamenco’ is the title of this album on which the now cantaora performs eleven different classical styles with the lyricism characterizing her voice, among them, guajira, cantiñas, caña, fandangos, media granaína and bulerías. And to do so, she looks at herself in references like Juan Valderrama, Pepe Pinto, Pepe Marchena, La Niña de la Puebla and also Enrique Morente, among others. As the Málaga-born artist explains, “to be original you have to go back to your origin, and my origin is flamenco. ‘Flamenco’ is a vital need for me to meet up again with my beginning in order to keep on offering the best of me, without repeating myself and thus resuming the creativity and strength necessary to go on composing new songs”. In this “risky project” she is accompanied by guitarist Juan Antonio Suárez ‘Cano’and Antonio Campos, who not only seconds her on cante but also offers her toque. She recorded this repertoire live at the Teatro Quintero in Seville, as an album and as an audiovisual, so Diana Navarro’s ‘Flamenco’ is released on October 31st, 2011 in a double edition including a CD and DVD.
