Flamenco-world.com, January 2007
Flamenco-world.com turns 10 years
old. The Spanish website, specializing in cultural coverage,
closes its first decade as the undisputed leader of flamenco
on the Internet and as one of the pages of reference on
European culture. The website now serves over three million
pages and receives half a million unique visits monthly.
Firmly laying its stakes on quality, the company has faced
up to the ups and downs of the digital economy and the record
industry, managing to consolidate its pioneer project based
on integrating the magazine and online store, updated daily
in Spanish and English. At the same time, it offers management
and consulting services, as well as websites like Flamencodigital.com
and Flamencofestival.info. For two years now, it has had
a physical store in Madrid.
Flamenco-world.com is celebrating. The
Spanish website has turned a decade old with a positive
balance. Since it was founded in 1997, it has consolidated
its position as the leader of flamenco on the Internet,
registering continuous growth internationally. At present,
it now serves over three million pages and receives half
a million unique visits monthly from all over the world,
although the United States, Spain, Central Europe and Japan
stand out.

Over the last ten years, it has developed
a project which was pioneering in its day, not just for
taking flamenco to the Internet for the first time, but
for creating a specialized digital platform integrating
a magazine and online store. Updated daily in Spanish and
English, it is a reference for enthusiasts, artists and
professionals, who benefit from a complete free-access database
with over six hundred biographies and over 300 videos of
its own, besides the full archives. There are now 80,000
subscribers who periodically receive its news bulletin and
40,000 customers who shop at the online store, with a catalogue
of nearly 5,000 products including CDs, DVDs, books, instruments,
clothing, shoes and other accessories for the practice of
flamenco.
Now a decade old, Flamenco-world.com can
boast of being one of the few Spanish business projects
to survive the ups and downs of the ‘dotcom’
economy. Over these ten years, what originated as an initiative
of self-employment by several young entrepreneurs coming
from the audiovisual, communication and art world, has become
one of the most solid websites specializing in culture,
always self-financed and with an annual turnover of nearly
one million euros.
Little by little, the website has boosted
itself with services such as management, consulting and
promotion. But it has stressed the creation of complementary
websites like Flamencodigital.com, for the sale of previously
unreleased music on mp3; the international festival agenda
Flamencofestival.info; the course directory Flamencoschool.com
and the Japanese version of the main website Flamencojapan.com.
And from the Net to the streets. In its continuous restlessness
to broaden its horizons, Flamenco-world.com inaugurated
its first store two years ago, located at 62 Calle Huertas
in Madrid, in the new cultural hub of the Spanish capital.
The establishment is part of project, now in the planning
stages, to shape up a future franchise network.
