Neither the cultural nor the geographic
distance has hindered it. Flamenco-roots pianist Dorantes
and Japanese percussionist Eitetsu Hayasi have united their
music in a joint show entitled ‘Resonancia’...
or ‘Hibiki’. The concert will be performed on
January 8th and 9th, 2010 at the New National Theatre in
Tokyo. The show includes the participation of the Yoko Komatsubara
Ballet, one of the leading ambassadors of flamenco dancing
in Japan.

Scarcely a few months ago, Dorantes demonstrated
the capacity his music has to dialogue with other genres.
In the show ‘Convivencias’, which was presented
at the 2009 Etnosur Festival and at a theater on Madrid’s
Gran Vía, the Lebrija-born pianist managed for scores
off his albums ‘Orobroy’ and ‘Sur’
to be performed by a philharmonic orchestra and by a flamenco
jazz trio.
Now he goes a step further. Dorantes, the
grandson of La
Perrata and nephew of El Lebrijano, knocks his philosophy
of coexistence up a notch. And he teams up with one of Japan’s
top contemporary creators, taiko drum maestro Eitetsu Hayasi.
“When Dorantes listened to Eitetsu’s sounds,
he visualized an understanding beyond languages, races and
space, two pioneer musicians, each one on his instrument,
but with artistic responsibility, connoisseurs of their
countries’ musical tradition and expressed in the
most contemporary of forms”, they explain from their
office.
And the result is ‘Hibiki’,
or translated into Spanish, ‘Resonancia’ (‘Resonance’).
A musical pas de deux which can be seen on January 8th and
9th, 2010 at the New National Theatre in Tokyo. The show
will also have dancing, contributed on this occasion by
the Yoko
Komatsubara Ballet. The veteran artist is one of the
top ambassadors of Spanish dance in her country, with a
career over forty years long.
