Paris

Duquende
follows Camarón de la Isla’s footsteps. Twenty
years later, he pays tribute to the mythical cantaor by
recording a live show at Cirque d’Hiver in Paris.
Only accompanied by Chicuelo on guitar and Isaac el Rubio
on box drum, Duquende offers a face-off with cante in
which he performs tarantas, soleá, tangos, fandangos,
bulerías and martinetes.

‘Duquende. Live in Cirque d’Hiver’
is an album recorded live on June 17th, 2005 at a very
special setting, the permanent circus in Paris. And the
thing is that, let alone how spectacular the nineteenth-century
building is, it was there where two decades ago Camarón
de la Isla recorded one of his posthumous albums,
‘París 1987’, which was released in
1999.
Camarón had himself accompanied
by a guitar; that of Tomatito. And Duquende is backed
by Chicuelo,
who also accompanied him and produced his previous album,
‘Mi forma de vivir’. But he also includes
the compás of Isaac el Rubio on box drum. The repertoire
is similar to the one formerly recorded by De La Isla,
coinciding in the bulerías, tangos, fandangos and
cantes mineros. Duquende adds the soleá and martinetes.
