Encarna
Anillo takes a step forward in her artistic career.
The Cádiz-born cantaora, one of the most highly
esteemed young voices on today’s flamenco scene,
is preparing the release of her first solo album, ‘Barcas
de plata’. But first, she wants to offer it live
to the public in a very special setting; Málaga’s
Gibralfaro Castle. The show where she will premiere this
record produced by Miguel Poveda will take place on August
31st in the setting of Festival Málaga en Flamenco
2007.

Carmen Linares has already made the prediction:
“I think she’s going to be someone in flamenco”.
The lady of cante is referring to Encarnita Anillo, the
young Cádiz-born cantaora she sponsors in the show
‘Desde el alma’ and who she takes turns with
on cante in the production ‘Poeta en Nueva York’
by Blanca Li. She has already built up a thousand and
one experiences live with bailaores, with guitarists and
singing up front. But now she knocks things up a notch,
pointing herself towards formal recognition. Coming out
in a few months will be her first solo album, which is
produced by a colleague, by Miguel Poveda.
Moreover, the cantaor collaborates on
the album with a touch of cante, joining a list of artists
who provide the artist with warm shelter. She has guitars
such as those of Juan Diego, Juan Requena and Rafael Rodríguez,
among others. And there’s also Farruquito, contributing
not only footwork, but also the lyrics and music of ‘No
hay tiempo’. Said bulerías form part of a
varied repertoire including room for alegrías,
malagueñas, soleá, milonga, zambra and tangos,
among other styles.

And although the album will not be released
for a few more months, Encarnita Anillo isn’t going
to miss the chance to offer a sneak preview of it to the
crowd attending on the night of August 31st at Gibralfaro
Castle in Málaga. The cantaora is going to be accompanied
by Juan
Diego, José
Manuel León and Eduardo Pacheco on guitar,
Juan Peña on percussion, Marcelino Fernández
and Emilio Florido on clapping and choruses, plus the
appearance of Carmelilla Montoya as guest artist. The
show is part of the program of the festival Málaga
en Flamenco 2007, and specifically of the series ‘Siete
discos’ (‘Seven Albums’) which also
includes appearances by artists such as Cañizares
and Marina Heredia.
