flamenco album ‘El cante en movimiento’

“Flamenco cante has to be in motion, like life”. Rafael Jiménez ‘Falo’ begins with this premise on his second disc, ‘El cante en movimiento’. Just like he did on his début album ‘¡Cante gitano!’, the cantaor from Asturias “recovers little-used styles and cantes to offer them updated for today’s audience, with the addition of new melismas and nuances to the original melodies and the contribution of new harmonies and sound contexts”. Standing out amidst the “nine movements” on the record is the montañesa ‘La nieve y la rosa’, the romance ‘A tío José de los Reyes, El Negro’ and the soleá ‘Cantes de autor’, as well as tangos, bulerías, guajiras, tientos and malagueñas. The lineup of musicians accompanying him includes, among others, guitarists Juan Antonio Suárez ‘Cano’ and Fernando de la Rúa, cellist José Luis López and pianist Pablo Suárez. Folk songs from Asturias, tangos reminiscent of fado and tributes to historical cante figures such as Manuel Vallejo, Enrique el Mellizo, Juan Talega and La Andonda are dealt with on this disc with the artist’s characteristic personality.
