The 2002 World Equestrian Games are giving a boost to the flamenco of Jerez. Also coinciding with the Fiestas de Otoño of the wine capital, the cante dynasties will take center stage to display their flamenco heritage. From the 8th to the 20th of September 2002, twelve families will take turns on the stage set up in the Plaza de la Asunción in front of the plateresque façade of the Cabildo.

The families participating in this series organized by the Instituto de Promoción y Desarrollo of the Jerez city government are, in order of appearance, the Sorderas, the Méndez, the Malenas, the Rubichis, the Moneos, the Zarzana/Moraítos, the Parrillas, the Carpios, the Vargas, the Agujetas, the Terremotos and the Zambos. Backed up by their respective family members, noteworthy is the participation of stars such as Vicente, Enrique and José Soto Sordera, Moraíto, Luis el Zambo, Manuel Parrilla, José Vargas El Mono, Fernando Terremoto and Manuel de los Santos Agujetas among others.

As the coordinator of the shows José María Castaño explains, "for the actual shows, we've established some guidelines which allow the particular perspective of each singing family to be displayed and highlight their own personal styles as well as the generational dimension by juxtaposing members of all age groups". The recitals, which will only skip September 14th due to the Fiesta de la Bulería, are all free entrance.
