Flamenco-world.com, November 2003

Flamenco guitar scholars and followers of the maestro from Algeciras are very happy indeed. The official transcription collection of Paco de Lucía's work is already publishing a second tome dedicated to the album 'Fantasía flamenca' ('Flamenco Fantasy') from 1969. The book, with explanations in Spanish, English and French, offers in solfeggio, tablature and fingering all the compositions on this album, among them, the famous 'Guajiras de Lucía'. Flamenco-world.com offers a free extract from the transcription of the granaína 'Generalife bajo la luna'.

'Fantasía flamenca de Paco de Lucía'

Following the model of the sheet music of 'The Fabulous Guitar of Paco de Lucía', which began the collection, the second installment is organized in two parts: explanatory texts and transcriptions. As an introduction, explanations and useful tips are included from the transcriber, Jorge Berges, such as the symbols (a letter for each finger, arrows for the tone attacks...), the stresses and specifically flamenco techniques. This brief practical guide is translated into Spanish, English and French.

Next, shaping up the bulk of the tome, are the transcriptions in solfeggio, tablature and fingering of the ten songs making up Paco de Lucía's second album, recorded in 1969. This repertoire touches styles with the liveliness of the alegrías 'Mi inspiración', 'Guajiras de Lucía' and the bulerías 'El Tempul; Levantine styles such as the taranta 'Aires de Linares' and the minera 'Lamento minero'; and styles included such as the soleá 'Celosa'. Moreover, it tackles the airs of Huelva in the fandangos 'Fiesta en Moguer' and those of Granada in the granaína 'Generalife bajo la luna'. Added to them are compositions further removed from the strictly 'jondo' repertoire such as the songs 'Mantilla de Feria' and 'Panaderos flamencos'.
