‘Dos hermanos’ is a flamenco show in which Israel Galván pits two different ways of understanding flamenco dance against each other. The bailaor, National Award for Dance 2005, will be on the side of the avant-garde, whereas his sister, Pastora Galván, will defend tradition. The project, with Alfredo Lagos on guitar and Juan José Amador on vocals, will be presented on the 29th of July in the Parker Playhouse of Fort Lauderdale and on the 30th of July at the Miami-Dade County in Miami.

The festival also offers the premiere of ‘Calle flamenca’, a collaboration by Bailes Ferrer Flamenco Dance Company and José Luis Rodríguez, with choreography by Pastora Galván and Belén Maya, among others, and the participation of the musicians Sudhi Rajagopal and Robert Boyd. The premiere will take place on the 5th and 6th of August at the Amaturo Theater of the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. For the second year, the doors of the Café Cantante will be opened for an evening of flamenco with the participation of artists such as Estrella Morena, Pepe de Málaga and José Moreno.

In addition to these performances, the festival program includes other activities, with a spotlight on teaching. There’ll be a week of introductory flamenco workshops for children and adults, as well as Masterclasses taught by bailaor Israel Galván and guitarist José Luis Rodríguez, among other big names. From the most outstanding students, one will be selected as the winner of a grant to study at the Taller Flamenco School in Seville next September. The program will round up with thematic flamenco films programmed by the Fort Lauderdale Film Festival and Cinema Paradiso, with the showing of the film ‘Flamenco’ by Carlos Saura and an exhibition of still photographs taken during its filming.
