Antonio
Campos débuts with a live album of traditional flamenco
cante. The beautiful Al-Andalusian corn exchange whose
name entitles the disc was the stage where the Granada-born cantaor
decided to record his cante for the first time. ‘Corral
del Carbón’ captures the recital which he offered
on July 24th, 2007 in the setting of the annual flamenco showcase
Los Veranos del Corral. Accompanied only by the guitar of Daniel
Méndez and the clapping of Carlos Grilo and Luis Cantarote,
he offers a total of seven natural cantes on the album. The romance
por bulerías ‘Corral del Carbón’, the
malagueñas and abandolaos ‘Juanillo el Loco’,
the cantiñas ‘Dos o tres cositas tiene Cai’,
the soleá ‘Papa Juan’, the seguiriya ‘Santiago
y Santa Ana’, the tientos-tangos ‘Gaspar en la memoria’
and the bulería ‘¡Que ya están aquí!’
are this artist’s letter of introduction solo. Until now,
Antonio Campos had focused his career on accompanying baile together
with artists like Mario Maya, Isabel Bayón, Merche Esmeralda,
Fuensanta la Moneta, Rocío Molina, Antonio Canales and
Rafaela Carrasco, among others. He has also collaborated on record
projects such as ‘Flamenco Chill’ and Nacho Arimany’s
‘Silence-Light’.
