Argentina
presented her second album ‘Las minas de Egipto’ at
Suma Flamenca 2010. On Friday, June 18th the young Huelva-born
cantaora arrived at the Sala Roja of the Teatros del Canal with
massive musical backing. The guitars of José
Quevedo ‘Bolita’ and Manuel Parrilla, clapping,
choruses, brass and even piano surrounded her in the presentation
in the capital of her second album. With them, she reeled off
the flamenco-style songs on the album and, in between, threaded
cantes por soleá, seguiriyas and fandangos de Huelva. And
nevertheless, her show didn’t reach the other side of the
stage. Not just because the venue was scarcely filled to half
capacity, but also because she didn’t manage to go beyond
the surface in either her performance or in her approach on stage
either. Madrid is traditionally the city which confirms flamenco
artists, but achieving it is really hard… and not just a
matter of coming.
