Arimany promotes coexistence between flamenco and world music
in the 2010 Nits de la Música. The Madrid-born
percussionist and composer ended the musical summer season of
Oropesa del Mar (Castellón, Spain) on Saturday July 17
meeting with an avant-garde band based on the repertoire of his
album ‘Silence-Light’.
The musician -pioneered the use of Mali’s pumpkin as a flamenco
percussion instrument- had as guests the renowned saxophonist
and flutist Jorge
Pardo, and two promising young Spanish jazz players, the pianist
Albert Sanz and bassist Yeray Jiménez. In the Plaza of
the Church, to overflowing audiences, they gave a new twist to
songs like ‘Soleá del viento' and 'Homage to Morente',
which blended sounds, textures, rhythms and instruments from various
musical cultures with a high degree of improvisation. 'Silence-light',
recorded in New York in 2006, has been shown live on forums such
as the Auditorium Canal Isabel II Foundation. In the coming months,
Nacho Arimany plans to perform at BAM in New York and to work
with the new proposal Artomatico, 'Dance 220v', in Madrid in Dance
Festival 2010.
