Journalist Silvia Calado publishes the
book ‘Por
bulerías. 100 años de compás flamenco’.
The author, contents director of Flamenco-world.com, lays out
in these informative pages a plunge into the genesis and evolution
of the flamenco style which is “at its 100 years of age,
the youngest one in flamenco, and nevertheless, the catalyst of
this musical genre’s evolution, not just since Camarón’s
revolution, but since La Niña de los Peines recorded it
for the first time, named as such, in 1910”. Where the word
comes from, what the key to its flamenco compás is, what
its lyrics talk about, what its different types and territories
are, who the main artists are that developed and develop it, what
its presence is in recordings, how it is mixed with other types
of music… are the main aspects which the book deals with.
As additional contents, it includes interviews, statements by
bailaores, cantaores, guitarists and other musicians, as well
as the listening guide ‘100 bulerías 100’.
The book is part of the flamenco collection by publisher Almuzara
- which already includes titles such as ‘De Jerez y sus
cantes’, ‘Manolo Caracol. Cante y pasión’
and ‘El cante flamenco’ - and inaugurates the series
‘Los palos del flamenco’ (‘Flamenco Styles’).
