Antonio
el Pipa and Arcángel champion the presentation of
the lineup for the 2006 Caja Madrid Flamenco Festival.
The Jerez-born bailaor explained that he will perform the new
show ‘De tablao’ for the Madrid audience before
taking it to Paris, New York and London. He commented that it
is a show which “loops the loop of simplicity and represents
just a night at a tablao; that is to say, cante, baile and toque”.
He is accompanied by “a first-rate troupe with special
guests like Angelita Vargas, Mariana Cornejo and Juana la del
Pipa. I don't think I have bad taste when choosing”. Arcángel
will perform backed by Miguel Ángel Cortés and
Daniel Méndez on guitar, plus Chico Fargas on percussion.
The Huelva-born cantaor expressed his gratitude for the laying
of stakes on young people by this festival, in which Mayte Martín,
Miguel Poveda and La Macanita will also sing. He pointed out
that “it's an honor for young people to be given continuity
and opportunities. If we don't let new water come out of the
fountain, it's impossible for flamenco to regenerate”.
The Madrilenian festival's fourteenth edition is to be held
at the Teatro Albéniz in Madrid from January 31st to
February 4th. The previous week, a full program of performances
and lectures will take place at La Casa Encendida, with tributes
to Chocolate and to Fosforito, winner of the Llave de Oro del
Cante (Cante's Golden Key Award).
