‘Reencuentro’ by Camarón is already a gold record in Spain

‘Reencuentro’ by Camarón is already a gold record in Spain. The power of the cantaor from La Isla continues to be unquestionable. Fifteen years after his death, an album with nine previously unreleased songs reaches fifth place on the Spanish record sales charts published by the association Promusicae in the tenth week of 2008. It is only behind Estopa, Sergio Contreras, Amy Winehouse and Michael Jackson. According to the daily newspaper El País, ‘Reencuentro’ is a gold record with 40,000 copies sold in two weeks. The peculiar thing about ‘Reencuentro’ is that the CD –produced by his son Luis Monge and Maín Gómez - is packaged in a box set which also includes a DVD with a documentary and eleven live performances coming from the RTVE archives, five postcards with historical photos and a silk-screened T-shirt. Standing out among the cantes now revealed is a duo with Serrat singing ‘La saeta’, a potpourri por tangos with the collaboration of La Susi and the bulería ‘Soy fragüero’ with Tomatito on guitar.
