Carmen
Linares receives the recognition of the Music
Academy with the ‘2011 Lifetime Achievement Award’.
This prize goes to the artistic career of the cantaora
for “her mastery, her professional courage, and her being
a reference in the positive evolution of the female condition in
flamenco art”. In the cantaora’s own words, “it’s
really exciting to receive an award for dedication, for an entire
lifetime. I love flamenco deeply and I’ve always been at its
service”. And that is demonstrated by her live projects as
well as her discography, which includes albums like ‘Antología.
La mujer en el cante’, ‘Un ramito de locura’ and
‘Raíces
y alas’, among others. The artist will receive
the prize at the 2011 Music Awards Gala, which is to be held on
May 18th at the Teatro Arteria Coliseum in Madrid and is dedicated
to flamenco, to mark the occasion of its declaration as Heritage
of Humanity by UNESCO. Several of the genre’s artists figure
among the finalists and not just in the category of Best Flamenco
Album (where Cañizares, Morente and Mercé compete),
but also in jazz and in fusion.
