Carmen
Linares recovers ‘Un ramito de locura’
at Flamenco at the Sabatini Gardens 2007. The Jaén-born
cantaora set aside her new shows ‘De aire y madera’
and ‘Desde el alma’, to remember her latest album.
Accompanied by José
Manuel León on guitar, she appeared in the palace
gardens completely at home in the setting, as if she had come
out of her royal lodgings. And song by song, she reeled off
the album she created five years ago together with Gerardo Núñez.
Elegant, skilful, devoted, sensitive, deep... The cantaora,
who is celebrating the tenth anniversary of ‘Antología.
La mujer en el cante’ this year, had no trouble winning
over a crowd which she brought to its feet a couple of times.
Contributing to the creation of the ideal setting was her group,
consisting of percussionist Tino di Geraldo, Eduardo Pacheco
on second guitar, Martín García on contrabass
and Ana and Javier González on choruses and clapping.
Shining in his own right was León, who the lady gave
way to for him to provide a sample of his solo début
‘Sirimusa’, a preview of the toque to come which
left the audience gaping. And the cool night air and the sky
and the pine trees cradling the evening of royal music...
