Cristina Hoyos
picks up her award at the 2006 Festival Flamenco del Cante de
las Minas in La Unión. The bailaora received
the ‘carburo minero’ award on Monday afternoon,
with which the Murcia-based festival pays tribute to her artistic
career. Just a few hours later, with the Seville-born bailaora
back in her seat, all eyes turned to the stage in the former
market building of the old mining town, as Diego
el Cigala ran through tracks from his latest album
‘Picasso en mis ojos’, accompanied by a guitar,
double bass, piano and percussion. The baile came from the spectacular
formation comprising Manolo Marín, Merche Esmeralda,
Javier Barón, Rafael Campallo and Adela Campallo, under
the banner ‘Gala de Andalucía’, back from
causing a sensation dancing in cities like New York, London,
Paris and Jerez.
