Ciutat Vella Festival and Flamenco a Nou Barris 2005 go over today's cante, baile and toque in Barcelona. Besides the outstanding presence of the jondo at the Guitar Festival, two other great flamenco events coincide in the Catalan capital in May. On the one hand, the twelfth edition of the Ciutat Vella Festival will be held from May 24th to 28th at the Contemporary Culture Center of Barcelona (CCCB). Standing out on the program are performances by Rafael Riqueni, Juan Carlos Romero and Jerónimo Maya, on guitar; Andrés Marín and Andrés Peña, on baile; and El Vareta and Encarna Anillo, on cante. Moreover, round-table discussions are scheduled with figures of the likes of Enrique Morente and Carlos Saura, lectures, debates and a chill-out which will be graced with the presence of alternative offers such as that of Cathy Claret. On the other hand, Flamenco a Nou Barris ‘Alma’, focuses this edition on the “concerts led by women, cantaoras and bailaoras, who will give us a contemporary vision of flamenco”. To be noted, the performances by Carmen Linares, Montse Cortés, Fuensanta la Moneta and Ángeles Gabaldón. The festival is to be held from May 19th to 21st at the Nou Barris District Courtyard.
