The group ElBicho
draws nearly four thousand fans in Madrid with its flamenco-style
pop rock. The band had two sell-out shows on May 14th
and 16th at the Palacio de Congresos in the Spanish capital.
It was presenting the live version of its third album, ‘ElBicho
VII’, produced by percussionist Tino
di Geraldo, at a venue more suitable for solemn events.
It was clear that the audience couldn’t bear to remain
seated. And so it was. The crowd ended up jumping up and down
and singing in chorus at the top of their lungs the songs which
the group has gained a following with since it began to struggle
in clubs in Madrid about seven years ago. ‘De los malos’,
‘Los Rokipankis’ and ‘De imaginar’ were
just a few of the songs making up a concert generous in length
and instrumentals, which came decorated with audiovisuals, plus
lightings and cameras (of the most impertinent sort). But a
bit of a sacrifice had to be made, since they were recording
the concert for it to be released soon on DVD. And time goes
by and the musical formula is repeated and the core of it all
continues to be Miguel Campello, a singer-performer brimming
over with charisma. It is his ‘sui generis’ dance,
his singing dramatic art, his death leap, his ripped t-shirt...
which makes the group a phenomenon of the masses. Although time
has mellowed out a bit this stage monster of the most restless
kind.
