Encarna Anillo wins the 2009 Young Flamenco Prize. Scarcely a year after releasing her début album, ‘Barcas de plata’, the Cádiz-born cantaora receives the award which the Flamencology Institute of Cádiz dedicates to new flamenco talents. The jury has valued the activities carried out by the artist over the last season, highlighted by her appearances on the program ‘Generaciones’ on Canal Sur Televisión, the live presentation of the album at Festival de Jerez 2008 and her participation in the show ‘Poeta en Nueva York’ by Blanca Li. And it is precisely in Cádiz where the cantaora’s next concert is scheduled, accompanied on toque by Juan Requena. It will be on June 23rd at the University of Cádiz’s Aulario de la Bomba within the 2009 Flamenco BBK Series, sharing the bill with David Lagos, who sings together with guitarist Alfredo Lagos. The awards ceremony of the 2nd Young Flamenco Prize, a figure of the cantaora created by sculptor Francisco Castejón Gordo, will take place in late August at the close of the Evening of Nuestra Señora de la Paz (Our Lady of Peace), in an act which will be attended by the winner of the first edition, David Palomar.
