The Moroccan city of Fez premieres its flamenco festival. Cervantes Institute organizes from 4th to 9th Abril 2011, in the Al-Hourria Cultural Complex, the first edition of a flamenco program with singing, dancing and musical gatherings. The festival includes performances by companies such as the Chekara Orchestra of Tetouan, brothering flamenco and Andalusian music; the flamenco dancer Rafaela Carrasco, with her show ‘Con-cierto gusto’; the recital of the Almeria-born singer María José Pérez and the show ‘Woman's soul’ by Lola Pérez, who denounces the violence against women. Besides these concerts, the lineup is made up of groups such as Chocolata and José Torres Trio, plus the conference ‘Origin and evolution of flamenco’ by Antonio Hernández. The festival is the result of the annual agreement between Cervantes Institute and Agencia Andaluza del Flamenco to spread this art throughout the world.
