Cantaor Gaspar
de Utrera dies. After suffering a lengthy illness,
he passed away on February 26th, 2008 at the age of 75, just
a few days before the tribute which was going to be held in
his honor at the Fundación CajaSol in Seville on Monday,
March 3rd. Nephew of Perrate de Utrera and relative of Los Pinini,
the cantaor was a guarantor of deep-roots cante. One of his
last performances took place at the 2005 Mont de Marsan Flamenco
Festival, where he was part of a collective show focusing on
flamenco from the Sevillian town.
