'Manuel Gerena, la voz prohibida', by Manuel Bohórquez

A book and a concert vindicate flamenco cantaor Manuel Gerena. Flamenco also has political undertones. And in the turbulent years of the transition from Franco’s dictatorship to democracy, cantaor Manuel Gerena was a key figure. Critic Manuel Bohórquez upholds this in ‘Manuel Gerena, la voz prohibida’, a book about his life and his work through the press. The presentation will take place on Monday, November 12th at the Teatro Alameda in Seville, accompanied by a performance by the cantaor himself, who has devoted his albums and his shows to the fight for freedom. The show, in which he will be accompanied by Juan Ignacio González on toque, has free admission until full capacity.
