Flamenco returns
to Noches del Español in a series dedicated to gypsy
artists. Madrid's Teatro Español (Spanish Theater)
is to devote nearly two weeks of its program to music performed
by gypsies from various latitudes, with special attention to
flamenco. Following performances by the Indians Musafir, the
Romanian band Fanfare Ciorcalia, the Czech Vera Bila and the
Macedonian Esma Redzepova, it's time for jondo art. Cantaor
Duquende
shares the bill on Saturday the 1st with bailaora Fuensanta
la Moneta. On Sunday, October 2nd, José Mercé
takes the live version of his latest album ‘Confí
de fuá’ to the theater in downtown Madrid. Closing
the series is Granada-born cantaora Estrella Morente with the
tribute concert to La Niña de los Peines entitled ‘Estrella
1922’, October 6th to 9th. Flamenco returns to this venue
on the occasion of the Fall Festival from November 16th to the
27th with ‘Canciones, antes de una guerra’ (‘Songs
Before a War’) by the María Pagés Company.
