Miguel
Poveda, Son de la Frontera and Ojos de Brujo, among others,
compete for the 2007 Latin Grammy for flamenco. The
eighth edition of the latin music awards has already announced
its lists of nominees. And figuring in category number 32, the
one dedicated exclusively to flamenco and to a clearly Spanish
musical genre, is cantaor Miguel Poveda with ‘Tierra de
calma’, the group Son de la Frontera with ‘Cal’,
the group Ojos
de Brujo with ‘Techarí’, guitarist Juan
Carmona with ‘Sinfonía flamenca’ and the
new group Calima with ‘Azul’. Moreover, flamenco
also sneaks in as a candidate for best latin jazz album thanks
to guitarist Tomatito, pianist Michel Camilo’s other half
on ‘Spain again’. Artists from the genre such as
Diego el Cigala, Paco de Lucía, Chocolate and Vicente
Amigo, among others, have already been awarded the ‘gramophone’.
