Franco stars in a flamenco guitar course by style
on DVD. The Sevillian guitarist is the instructor of
the educational collection ‘Guitarra flamenca’,
which teaches in ten volumes the technique of concert and accompanying
toque for styles such as soleá, alegrías, bulerías,
tangos and seguiriyas. Each ‘chapter’ consists of
a multi-system DVD with a running time of approximately one
hour with exercises on falsetas and technical principles for
the left and right hands, marked by a metronome. It also includes
accompaniment for cante and percussion for ‘background’
toque practice. It is all complemented with a CD including recordings
of the complete toques, with and without accompaniment and at
different speeds. Moreover, a booklet provides explanations
of the lessons in Spanish, English, German, French, Japanese
and Chinese. Manolo Franco was awarded the first Giraldillo
del Toque at Seville’s Bienal de Flamenco, and after having
accompanied great cante figures, he began to develop his facet
as a concert performer on albums such as ‘Aljibe’
and in live projects like ‘Compadres’ together with
Niño de Pura.
