Ketama. Frame from the film 'Herencia flamenca' by Michael Meert

The documentary film ‘Herencia flamenca’ (‘Flamenco Heritage’) tells the story of the Habichuela family. German director Michael Meert has presented at the 49th International Cinema Week of Valladolid 2004 the film portraying the group Ketama, consisting of Antonio, Juan and José Miguel Carmona in the early eighties. And, specifically, it focuses on how the group has combined breaking away from flamenco's molds - upon their fusion with genres such as salsa, funk and Brazilian music -, with respect for the jondo tradition represented by their respective fathers, brother guitarists Juan and Pepe Habichuela. Last June the trio announced that they were taking “a break”, taking advantage of the presentation of the greatest hits compilation ‘20 pa’Ketama’, which includes the new songs ‘Corazón loko’ and ‘Viviré’. The group then received a ‘diamond record’ for the sale of over one million and a half copies of the dozen albums making up their discography. The band's three members are currently involved in different musical projects.
