The tonalities and nuances of Carmen
Linares’s voice were the stars of the show
Entre dos luces, the sixth one scheduled in the ‘Siete
Maravillas’ series (held at the Teatro de las Lagunas
in Mijas in the end, instead of at Castillo de Sohail in Fuengirola,
due to the threat of rain). The Jaén-born cantaora, whose
career has featured the ability to get across the heritage of
flamenco tradition and the constant search for new forms of
expression and her conjunction with cante jondo, once again
staged her enriching art, for the first time combining her intense
voice with the verdiales gang from Casillas del Arroyo de los
Frailes and the Orquesta Chekara de Tetuán de Música
Andalusí, who were in charge of opening the show and
accompanying the artist in unison in the first cantes. Carmen
Linares once again demonstrated her spontaneity and musical
wisdom on stage as well as the ability to get across her very
personal cante, with a repertoire consisting of classic styles
in which tangos, the taranta, the soleá and alegrías
in the first part were followed by tientos, malagueñas,
siguiriya and bulerías in the second.
