Malaga, still in flamenco. Although the next edition of Málaga en Flamenco won't be till next year, they'll be organizing events throughout 2006. In the wake of the festival organized by Malaga regional council, the peñas around the province offer regular recitals, as part of two seasons: ‘Nos vemos en tu peña’ (see you at your peña-club) and ‘De aquí mismo’ (from right here), featuring artists such as La Cañeta de Málaga, Rocío Bazán, Bonela Hijo, Virginia Gámez, Antoñita Contreras and Gitanillo de Vélez, among others. In addition, the festival lends its support to ‘Biznagas’ - a production by the Andalusian flamenco development agency, a public body that's dependent on the Andalusian regional council's Department for cultural affairs - which has already played in Catalonia and Aragón. The production kicked off the 2006 ‘Flamenco Viene del Sur’ season on 8th March at Teatro Cánovas in the city of Málaga, which will also host performances by Merche Esmeralda, Diego el Cigala, Belén Maya and Capullo de Jerez, among others, sharing parts of the program with the seasons at Seville's Teatro Central and Granada's Teatro Alhambra.
