Flamenco sparks
passion at the 2006 Montreux Jazz Festival. Amidst
the variety of genres coloring the Swiss festival’s program,
there was also room for the music originating in Andalusia.
Together with Herbie Hancock, Mathew Jonson, B.B. King, Gilberto
Gil, Sting, Santana, The Strokes and Iggy Pop, the three banners
of toque, cante and baile were waved. Paco de Lucía burst
with skill in a review of his discography from ‘Cositas
buenas’ backwards, at the Casino Barrière on July
15th. And on the 14th, Diego el Cigala and Farruquito shared
the same stage. The jondo presence is becoming more and more
frequent on the jazz circuit, as is proven by the lineup of
the 2006 Vitoria Jazz Festival, with Paco de Lucía, Tomatito
and Enrique Morente.
