The flamenco
season kicks off at the 2008 Nîmes Festival.
The Odéon is already playing host to jondo echoes, with
all the tickets sold out for the entire festival. Following
the toque and baile session by local artists Kiko Ruiz and Manuel
Gutiérrez, Córdoba-born guitarist José
Antonio Rodríguez offered the recital of his new
album ‘...en el tiempo’ in a quartet on the night
of Tuesday, January 22nd. The next artists to make appearances
at this intimate stage are two of the winners of the last National
Contest of Córdoba; bailaor Marcos Flores and cantaor
David Palomar. Then from Thursday to Saturday, the festival
moves on to the city’s main venue, the Théâtre,
where the schedule includes the gala ‘Pepe para siempre!’
with Chano Lobato, Fosforito and José Galván;
the concert by Miguel Poveda; and the closing show by Chano
Lobato and bailaora Rocío Molina. Kicking off just three
days after the French festival finishes is the 2008
Festival Caja Madrid, which is to be held at the Teatro
Albéniz in the Spanish capital from January 29th to February
2nd, 2008. The following event will be 2008
Festival de Jerez, the great flamenco dancing showcase,
which kicks off on February 22nd.
