Paco de Lucía is reunited with Jerez. The date is Monday, August 16th, 2010 and the place, the bullring in Jerez. Those are the coordinates for the concert which for years Jerez de la Frontera has been waiting for. This flamenco city was one of the starting points of the Algeciras-born maestro’s career, since at the Teatro Villamarta in 1962 he won a prize together with his brother Pepe de Lucía, Los Chiquitos de Algeciras. Then he came back in 1970 to receive the award from the Institute of Flamencology and later on in some less-crowded events. But this Cádiz-area town was not a stop in any of the great international tours which he has been on since the ’80s. It now joins the huge list of places which Paco de Lucía plays at throughout 2010, with an anthological show he has performed on stages as outstanding as La Fenice in Venice, Castell de Peralada, Arena de Pula and Seville’s Teatro de la Maestranza. The Jerez recital by this musician, recently named Doctor Honoris Causa by Boston’s Berklee College of Music, will put the finishing touch on the Noches de Bohemia 2010 Series, which also has singer Pastora Soler and the Cologne Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra on the bill. It is all joined by the Cine Astoria Flamenco Fridays, which will host artists from this land such as Juana la del Pipa, Elu de Jerez, Mateo Soleá and Antonio Malena, among others, from August 6th to 27th.
