Paco
de Lucía’s sixtieth birthday is celebrated
in Algeciras with a seminar. Artists, researchers and
writers gather from March 24th to 28th, 2008 at the Fundación
José Luis Cano’s Assembly Hall of Algeciras City
Hall “to talk about the maestro behind his back”.
Artists like his brothers Pepe de Lucía and Ramón
de Algeciras, Manolo Sanlúcar, Paco Cepero, Gerardo Núñez,
Flores el Gaditano, Fosforito and Joaquín Grilo; scholars,
producers, writers and journalists such as Enrique Montiel,
Ricardo Pachón, Juan José Téllez, José
Luis Ortiz Nuevo, Juan Manuel Suárez Japón, Fermín
Lobatón and Silvia Calado have been called on to share
experiences, news, memories and reflections related to the guitarist.
‘Paco de Lucía and Classical Music’, ‘Paco
de Lucía and Camarón’, ‘Guitar, in
Times of Paco de Lucía’ and ‘Paco, in the
World’ are some of the titles of the round-tables scheduled.
At the same time, a display of caricatures by Andrés
Vázquez de Sola entitled ‘Paco y los suyos’
opens in the Cádiz-area town as well as the educational
exhibit ‘Memoria de Paco’ which, designed by graphic
designer Kiko Galeote, includes texts by numerous authors and
photos by Pepe Lamarca, José Luis Roca and Daniel Muñoz,
among others.
