María Pagés inaugurates the headquarters of the Instituto Cervantes in Tokyo with flamenco dancing. With the double performance of the show ‘Flamenco y poesía’ (‘Flamenco and Poetry’) by the Sevillian bailaora and choreographer on November 10th and 11th, 2008 at the Suntory Theater, the largest center of the Spanish cultural institution in the world was officially inaugurated. And she did so by adding movement and rhythm to poems by José Saramago, Federico García Lorca and Miguel Hernández. The artist also takes part in the round-table ‘Mujeres creadoras españolas’ (‘Spanish Female Creators’) together with filmmaker Isabel Coixet and chef Carme Ruscalleda. Over two thousand students have registered at the new Japanese headquarters of the Cervantes Institute since it opened in September of last year, to carry out studies in Spanish, but also in other subjects such as film history or flamenco history. Following these galas, María Pagés is scheduled to present her show ‘Sevilla’ at the National Centre for the Performing Arts of Beijing (China) on December 5th and 6th.
