Juan Parrilla

Flutist and composer Juan Parrilla teaches how to play flamenco with melodic instruments. The Jerez-born musician has just released a method with a book containing sheet music and exercises, plus a CD with the audios, in which he provides violinists, flutists, saxophonists... with the keys to how to perform styles such as tangos, bulerías, soleá and seguiriyas. The study of each rhythm includes the explanation of the different measures and accompaniments of clapping, exercises of articulation, measure, anticipation and rhythm, and a melodic song composed by the author for the student to apply what has been learned with two audio versions; one with a flute and the other without a flute so that the pupil adds his or her melodic instrument. The book with sheet music and exercises has a total of 204 pages, with texts in Spanish and English. Throughout his long career, Juan Parrilla, who belongs to an important flamenco family from Jerez, has taken part as a performer, composer and arrangement writer in numerous projects live and at the studio, among them, ‘La luna en el río’ by Carmen Linares, ‘Entre vareta y canasta’ by Diego el Cigala, ‘Gipsy passion band’ by Joaquín Cortés, ‘Permíteme bailarte’ by Aida Gómez and ‘La difícil sencillez’ by Rafael Amargo.
