Enrique Morente, Jorge Pardo, Vicente
Amigo and Niño Josele, finalists of the 2010 Music Awards
for best flamenco album. Leaving aside ‘Morente
flamenco’, a compilation of classical cantes recorded live,
instrumental and hybrid music clearly dominate the nominations
in this edition. Opting for the prize is saxophonist Jorge
Pardo, an icon of jazz flamenco, with his album ‘Vientos
flamencos 2’, on which he tackles the challenge of singing
cantes by Camarón and El Chaqueta on the flute and sax;
Vicente Amigo with ‘Paseo de Gracia’, a disc on which
the Córdoba-born guitarist draws flamenco up to the keys
of pop and stresses the melody; and Almería-born Niño
Josele, with a very free guitar album seasoned by jazz players
like Phil Woods. In the last five years, this award has been won
by Carmen Linares for ‘Raíces y alas’ (2009),
Juan Habichuela for ‘Una guitarra en Granada’ (2008),
Estrella Morente for ‘Mujeres’ (2007), Enrique Morente
for ‘Morente sueña La Alhambra’ (2006) and
Paco de Lucía for ‘Cositas buenas’ (2005).
