The re-release
and sheet music of ‘Alcázar de cristal’ vindicate
the music of flamenco guitarist Rafael
Riqueni. A decade after its release, the latest
album by the Sevillian artist was published once again a few
months ago. And it has been done two-fold, since besides the
re-release in CD format, the transcription of the album has
also come out. At the presentation ceremony of the products
which took place on June 20th, 2007 in Madrid, the author of
the scores, Enrique Vargas, upheld that “Rafael Riqueni
was one of the greats who has defined the structures of harmonic,
melodic and rhythmic development of flamenco guitar, so it would
be unfair for his name to be lost in oblivion. He had an impact
on an entire generation of us guitarists, since he was a visionary”.
Moreover, he highlights the need for flamenco’s entire
musical legacy to be put down on paper: “The written score
remains forever; that’s why Bach’s music lives on.
We haven’t been as lucky as classical music in flamenco”.
