Manolo Sanlúcar, winner of the 2009 Niña de los Peines Flamenco Award. The jury of the prize, established by the Junta de Andalucía, emphasizes “both his long creative career as a guitarist, which has exalted him as one of the great flamenco musicians, and his brilliant work composing in which he has paved new ways through symphonic music”. And it also stresses the research carried out by the Cádiz-born guitarist and composer: “It is the first time that a flamenco artist at this level has tackled the difficult task of explaining the origin and essence of flamenco harmony from the purest scientific-musical analysis”. Chano Lobato, Enrique Morente and Paco de Lucía were already distinguished in previous editions with this award, worth 30,000 euros.
