Sara Baras receives Spain's 2003 National Dance Prize.
The Cádiz-born bailaora has been awarded the top prize in Spanish dance, granted by the National Institute of the Performing Arts and Music of the Ministry of Culture, in the category of interpretation. The panel of judges has given the prize to the dancer from Cádiz "for the push given to Spanish dance and the leap in quality achieved with her show 'Mariana Pineda', acclaimed by the public and the critics". The prize in the category of creation, which was awarded to María Pagés last year, goes this year to the hands of dancer and choreographer Nacho Duato. Flamenco bailaores such as Eva Yerbabuena, Antonio Canales, Antonio Gades and Cristina Hoyos already own this prize.
