La Tobala vindicates herself as

La
Tobala vindicates herself as a flamenco cantaora
on her new album, ‘Lenguaje puro’. She
says that if she turned towards “modern flamenco”
on her first albums, it was out of demand by the record companies.
And she has now taken the reins of her own work upon recording
with the record company and production of her husband, guitarist
Pedro
Sierra, “which has given me enormous freedom”.
At the album presentation which took place at the Centro Andaluz
de Flamenco in Jerez on February 4th, 2008, she explained that
“it’s a record made from maturity, on which I gather
all the knowledge learnt throughout so many years in the business”.
The Sevillian cantaora elaborated that she has achieved “a
result really similar to my live shows”, with a repertoire
inspired by maestros such as Antonio
Mairena, Fosforito and Tomás Pavón. To which
she has added “my personal touch for it to sound in my
voice; I think it’s fundamental for whoever listening
to La Tobala to identify her as such”. The album offers
ten tracks, among which styles can be heard like seguiriyas
de Los Cagancho, malagueñas de Chacón, fandangos
de Puente Genil and the soleá petenera by Pepe de la
Matrona.
