2005 Torrelodones
Flamenco Festival (Madrid, Spain) takes root with Sara Baras,
María
Pagés, Tomatito and Carmen Linares on the
bill. The Madrid festival faces its second edition
November 9th to 12th, 2005 at the Boulevard Theater in Torrelodones
(in the province of Madrid) with the firm purpose of “permanence
and improvement”. Just like last year, it lays its stakes
on “a bill of top figures”, as its director Juan
Verdú explains. Taking care of the opening is Sara Baras
with the show ‘Sueños’ on Wednesday, November
9th. Next is guitarist Tomatito, with young cantaor Antonio
Pitingo as opener. Taking over on Friday the 11th is cantaora
Carmen
Linares. And the festival is to be closed on Saturday the
12th by the María Pagés Company with a compilation
“of the best times we've had at this venue where we are
a resident company”, entitled ‘Teatro Bulevar’
(‘Boulevard Theater’). The Sevillian bailaora and
choreographer will display pieces from shows such as ‘Flamenco
Republic’, ‘La Tirana’ (‘The Tyrant’)
and ‘Canciones, antes de una guerra’ (‘Songs
Before a War’), and will present the choreography of Saramago's
poem ‘Se alzó una rosa’ (‘A Rose Arose’),
“which we put together at this theater to present at the
last Latin American Summit”. The festival has a related
program of activities for children, lectures and a flamenco
tent for enthusiasts.
