The 2009 Toulouse Flamenco Festival prepares an edition dedicated to women. The French city welcomes the spring by paying tribute to female flamenco. The eighth edition of this French city’s festival, scheduled for March 17th to 21st, offers several doses of female baile and cante. The main attractions are the shows scheduled at La Halle aux Grains. The first one, on March 20th, is by Sevillian bailaora Isabel Bayón. The second one, on the 21st, has a twin bill devoted to the voices of Montse Cortés and Esperanza Fernández. The two previous nights, cantaora Mercedes Cortés will perform at L'Espace Croix Baragnon. But the festival will be opened by a local artist, bailaora La Nimeña, who performs on March 17th at the Centre Culturel Henri Desbals, showing how cross-border it is to be a woman and flamenco.
