Paco de Lucía, Enrique Morente and Tomatito give the 2006 Vitoria Jazz Festival an injection of flamenco. The fact that instrumental flamenco is a hit with jazz audiences is nothing new. What is new is that three flamenco stars appear at a single jazz festival. Paco de Lucía is scheduled to perform on Tuesday 11th July at the Mendizorroza sports complex, probably with a contribution from trumpeter Wynton Marsalis. Tomatito and Michel Camilo, who in 2000 gave us the album ‘Spain’, play on Friday 14th July, when the recital by Enrique Morente is also set to take place. The Festival de Jazz de Vitoria is an international event which has previously hosted offerings that walk a fine line between flamenco and jazz, such as those of Chick Corea & Touchstone, Chano Domínguez, and the trio comprising Carles Benavent, Jorge Pardo and Tino di Geraldo.
