Rocío Molina and Arcángel star in the 2009
La Yerbabuena Flamenco Festival. On Saturday, July 4th
in the area surrounding the Iglesia de San Juan Bautista (St. John
the Baptist’s Church) in the Seville-area town of Las Cabezas
de San Juan, the eighteenth edition of its flamenco festival will
be held. Standing out on the bill, which is to be opened by local
cantaor Manuel Cordero, are performances by two of the genre’s
steady talents. On the one hand, Málaga-born bailaora
Rocío
Molina will offer a baile recital accompanied by Leo Triviño
and Emilio Florido on cante, Paco Cruz and Manuel Cazás on
guitar, and Sergio Martínez on percussion. On the other hand,
Huelva-born cantaor
Arcángel
will resort to his particular vision of classical cante backed on
toque by Granada-born Miguel Ángel Cortés. The night
is completed by the awarding of the Yerbabuena de Plata to Iñaki
Gabilondo. The Basque journalist thus joins a list of art personalities
winning the silver bouquet which includes designers Victorio and
Lucchino, writer Caballero Bonald and playwright Salvador Távora,
among others.
