Vicente Amigo, Diego el Cigala, Estrella Morente, Enrique Morente and Javier Limón opt for the 2006 Latin Grammy

Niña Pastori competes with Shakira in the female pop category

Flamenco’s current record scene once again competes for its most international title. In this edition, there are five albums opting for the 2006 Latin Grammy in the category of best flamenco album: ‘Un momento en el sonido’ by Vicente Amigo, ‘Picasso en mis ojos’ by Diego el Cigala, ‘Sueña La Alhambra’ by Enrique Morente, ‘Mujeres’ by Estrella Morente and ‘Limón’, a collective album produced by Javier Limón. Moreover, Niña Pastori leaves the category of flamenco with her album ‘Joyas prestadas’ to fight with international artists of the likes of Shakira in the category of best female pop vocal album.

There’s also a new nomination for the now mythical ‘Lágrimas negras’ by Diego el Cigala and Bebo Valdés, but this time going to Fernando Trueba for directing the documentary released on DVD ‘Blanco y Negro, en vivo’, one of the audiovisuals nominated for best long-form music video.

In the last two editions, the Latin Grammy has been awarded to a guitar album: ‘Aguadulce’ by Tomatito in 2005 and ‘Cositas buenas’ by Paco de Lucía in 2004. On this occasion, guitar is represented by Vicente Amigo, who already won a Latin Grammy in 2001. Moreover, repeating as nominees are Enrique Morente as well as Diego el Cigala, who was given this award together with pianist Bebo Valdés for ‘Lágrimas negras’.
