For the first time ever, sister and brother
Lola and José Greco have decided to unite their respective approaches to
flamenco dance. José Greco's children have devised the show 'Latido' which
debuts at the Madrid tablao El Corral de la Morería from February 20th
to March 24th, 2002. The work, which opens with a Miguel Hernández poem,
includes soleá por bulerías, seguiriyas, farruca and tangos. The
Greco siblings are accompanied by cantaores Jesús el Almendro, Pedro Montoya
and Manuel El Flecha, and guitarists Felipe Maya, Antonio El Muñeco and
Curro de Jerez.

Corral de la Morería is seeing the
debut of the dance couple formed by Lola and José Greco. The dancers, José
Greco's offspring, are presenting their first joint show, 'Latido', at the well-known
Madrid tablao. The show, which includes the recitation of poetry from Miguel Hernández
and Lorca, is made up of five dance numbers including a soleá por bulérias
duet, Lola Greco's seguiriya called 'Mi sentir', José Greco's farruca 'Mi
fuerza', and the couple's closing tangos.
The duo has chosen three singers and
three guitarists to provide the backup with singers Jesús el Almendro,
Pedro Montoya and Manuel el Flecha, and guitarists Felipe Maya, Antonio el Muñeco
and Curro de Jerez. The show also includes a break in the form of a guitar solo
with tonás.
The owner of the Corral de la Morería,
Manuel del Rey, explains that "Lola Greco is one of today's biggest Spanish
dance stars. She has an uncommon sensitivity which totally enthralls the audience.
By contrast José Greco has a very high technical level and deep roots,
and is one of those dancers whose mere presence is enough to fill an entire stage".
Dancer Blanca del Rey used the same praiseful
tones to introduce the brother and sister on February 21. She said Lola Greco
"seduces the air with her arms". Of Lola's brother who has traveled
the world with his company "José Greco II Dance Company", she
commented that "he defies his own ability and his dance must be seen as a
constant challenge".
